What I do
I’m writing every day. That’s a lot of content. Rather than giving you a seemingly infinite list of links to click through, here’s a tightly curated selection of my recent work.
I’ve tried to include a bit of everything – long-form features, SEO content, reviews, etc – but if there’s anything else you want to see, just ask. Chances are I’ve written something that fits the bill.
Cycling
Cycling is my first love. I like to push my limits on long-distance solo rides, keep up to date with the latest kit and tech, and nerd out over the occasional hand-built frame. When I’m not doing all of that stuff, I’m writing about it.
Cyclist Magazine: Hardknott Pass
Hardknott Pass is the toughest climb in the UK. Those who have dared to attempt it often say, “if you can get up that, you can get up anything.” This magazine feature documents my experience taking on the challenge.
The Independent: Canyon Grail vs Canyon Grizl
Canyon is the world’s favourite direct-to-consumer bike brand. I put its two key drop-bar off-roaders to the test on some of Scotland’s finest gravel for this head-to-head review in The Independent.
Cyclist Magazine: Fred Whitton
Any cyclist worth their electrolyte tablets knows the name Fred Whitton. This legendary one-day event is the hardest of its kind, taking on some of the steepest climbs and most potholed roads the UK has to offer.
BikeRadar: Adidas Gravel Shoe Review
Getting hands on with the latest kit is one of my favourite parts of my job. When BikeRadar asked me to put Adidas’ new gravel bootie to the test I knew exactly where to head. So I packed my gear, threw the bike on the roof and set off to Kielder., the UK capital of gravel.
Style
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with clothes. I hesitate to use the word ‘fashion’, because the latest developments on the runway are of little interest to me. But strike up a conversation about functional outerwear, technical fabrics or esoteric style subcultures and I’ll talk for days.
A League Of Their Own
This magazine feature delves into the Ivy League x streetwear crossover popularised by the likes of Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, and perpetuated by Aimé Leon Dore.
Grazie Mille!
In this piece for Oracle Time magazine, I take a look at the history of C.P. Company’s iconic Mille Miglia jacket and it’s motorsport links.
The Esquire Guide To Smart Casual
Esquire called on me to help demystify the ubiquitous yet often misunderstood smart-casual dress code.
Outdoors
My life revolves around being active in the great outdoors. Sometimes that means running up hills in the English Lake District, sometimes it means hurtling down them on a snowboard in the French Alps. But whatever I’m doing outside, I’m usually planning a story about it too.
Mpora: Snowsports’ Sustainability Paradox
I love snowsports, but I also care for the environment and live in a relatively flat country. This places me in an awkward position. One that I wrote about for Mpora’s Green Issue.
Red Bull: Kirstie Ennis interview
Kirstie Ennis is a US Marine who lost her leg in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan. Instead of letting this defeat her, she used it as fuel to start a mountaineering career. I spoke to her for Red Bull as she geared up to attempt her biggest challenge yet: Everest.
The Independent: The Best Men’s Running Shoes 2024
The Independent tasked me with putting together its 2024 roundup of the best running shoes on the market. That meant working my way through a ceiling-high stack of shoeboxes, lacing up and logging some serious miles.
Red Bull: Mathieu Crepel interview
Mathieu Crepel is a legendary four-time World Champion snowboarder who's swapped the slopes for some major surf. I chatted to him for Red Bull ahead of the launch of his new film, Shaka.
